Chiang Mai

We have spent the past 2 days going to various local places, we visited a place that makes parasols both large and small, we were able to see the process from beginning to end, it was fascinating to see how quickly the artists painted them. We also bought plain tee shirts and chose pictures to have painted on them, I went for a small gecko on the front and small elephant on the back, Frans had a big elephant both front and back, covering the entire tee shirt, subtle not.
That evening we went to a live music bar where a group of 5 musicians were playing together, they were really good and with the help of several gin and tonics  I kicked off my flip flops and danced the night away, it was so funny as I encouraged an American guy who lives here in his late 60's to get up and boogie with me, he said he had been there many times before but never danced. It was good fun.
Yesterday we went for a 2 hour cruise down the river which was scenic and stopped off at an organic farm which was interesting.
Later on we went to the Sunday market which is in the old town with hundreds of stalls selling mainly hand made goods, I could have filled many a suit case as so many of the products were unique and lovely, but once again I could not as I still have to carry things for a while yet, so I made do with a pumice stone for 60p (all this walking in flip flops does your feet no good)
Last night we had a bottle of sparkling wine and a picnic of raw carrots, cheese, crackers, dips and crisps on the bed in the room, we used a towel as a table cloth (and plate) it was funny.
We are now in the internet cafe trying to decide where to go from here, Laos is quite cold in the evenings, about 10 degrees, and I don't like being cold, one of the best things about being out here is walking around in a tee shirt in the evenings.  We plan to leave tommorow or the day after so we need to get  move on.
Oh! the fun of being a traveler.
