Loved this, the last photo in Cambodia, no safety issues here |
We left at 8.30 on a packed coach to make the overland journey to Bangkok, approx 3 hours to the border.
It took almost 2 hours to get us all through customs and then time for refreshments before we were separated into different mini buses (they didn't tell us that when we booked the 'coach')
Still it was only $10 for the whole trip, so we settled down for the 80 mile an hour ride on a highway straight to Bangkok which was a little under 4 hours.
It makes me smile to myself how many road miles I have traveled since being here when back home I thought an hour was ages.
We arrived in the city around 5pm and found a cheap but clean guest house with hot shower and a/c right in the centre of all the day and night life but really quiet and only $22
It was nice to be here with Frans (that's Joeys real name and I have decided to use it instead of his Joey that he said people find easier to pronounce) no,I don't really get it either.
Any how as I was saying, it is nice to be here with him as he has a much better sense of direction then me and therefore goes further than the end of the road as he can find his way back.
So, we had a lovely walk around and I realised there were lots more lovely streets with night markets, street sellers selling fab fresh food and sooo cheap, around 30-50p for a stir fried meal including chicken, prawns, veg and noodles. And also lots of hand made jewelery
5 for 2pds! |
Today we went up and down the river on a water taxi less than 60p for 2 hours, there are 30 piers in all and we went past all of them getting off a couple of times to see what was going on in different parts of the city, it was really interesting seeing the shanty huts right on the waters edge with massive 5 star hotels dwarfing them.
Tomorrow we plan to get up early and travel 2 hrs by bus to visit the original floating market which is something I have wanted to do each time here.
Later in the day we have booked a flight to Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand it was really cheap only 32pds (still no pound sign on keyboard) each and takes a little over an hour where a bus or train would have been 12hrs, due to arrive 7pm
Met a lady today who lives there and she says it is laid back with lovely places around to go and see, fab food and loads of cheap wares at the markets. So far I haven't bought anything as I have to carry it but I am very soon going to shed some of my things and buy some new bits and pieces.
So, looking forward to the next chapter.
photos soon...
