Phu Quoc new year

Happy new Year!
We spent the last couple of days lazing around  and reading, there are book swaps almost every where that we stay so its a great way of getting a different book to read without having to pay, you simply swap one you have already read.
The locals in all the countries sell copies of books for a couple of pounds, I have bought 3 of them, all were true stories, 2 autobiographies about the war in Cambodia as experienced through a childs eyes and this week I read one about an Irish lady who came to Ho Chi Min city to help  the street children.
Today is 3rd of February  is the Lunar new year.
Last night we went into town (about 3 miles away) and watched the celebrations unfold. We started by having dinner of grilled fish on the barbeque and then made our way to the big outdoor stage wqhere a variety of acts to include singing and dancing were taking place.
There were thousands of people out, around 10pm  it became really busy at the port, we followed the crowd and watched an impressive firework display. I was impressed as it was at 10.30 and all over by 11pm, much better than hanging about until midnight.
We estimated there to be 8,000 people out, when it was over they all walked until they found their scooters, it was a sight seeing so many scooters all trying to get onto the road at once and find some space. They did though with the usual constant beeping of horns  and the usual no one taking any notice.
The biggest noticable difference from a Weastern celebration gathering was the lack of alcohol. apart from a few men having beers with their dinner no one had a drink in their hand.
We walked back taking about an hour, it was a lovely warm evening (as usual).
Did I mention that 2 nights ago we had some rain? It woke me up, I put a towel around me and went out onto the patio forv a while, it was lovely and only the second time there has been any rain since I left UK Nov 11th.
On that note, I have made the decision that I am going to change my return date home. I have a ticket that enables me to change the date once up until May 11th, although I dont expect to stay out here until then I shall definately hang around for a while longer yet. My return date is in just over 2 weeks time and that's too soon.
I am lucky enough not to have any ties back home,  therefore being able to carry on, I am also very lucky to have met someone to travel with who has no return date and all the time in the world to travel and see lots. It's a great situation we are both in.
We are still getting along really well and it's a wonderful chance for me to do what I have wanted to do for years with the added bonus of a lovely guy to do it with!
I am writing this from Frans lap top on the beach (1.10pm), the waves are lapping and it's about 28 degrees, just about to have a fresh coconut shake and salad, it's not a bad life.
Hope you are all well, the only thing I miss about the UK is  family and being able to share a bottle of wine (and crisps and dips) and a laugh with friends,  but for now that will have to wait...
So, that's the plan, to continue being a traveller and all the while I am enjoying why not?
